Privacy Policy
Last updated: 23 August 2026
This site is deliberately kept lean: there is no contact form, no user account, no analytics or advertising tracking, and no third-party services hidden behind a cookie-consent banner. Personal data is only ever processed in the few, clearly named cases described below.
1Data controller
Responsible for data processing on this website:
Full company details are listed on the imprint page.
2Hosting and server log files
This website is hosted by STRATO GmbH on servers located in Germany. When you open the site, STRATO automatically processes the technical access data your browser sends: IP address, date and time of the request, the file requested, the amount of data transferred, the referring URL, and browser and operating system type. These so-called server log files are used solely to deliver the website securely and reliably and to defend against attacks; they are not combined with other data sources or evaluated for advertising purposes. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in a secure, functioning website). STRATO processes this data as a processor on my behalf under a data processing agreement pursuant to Art. 28 GDPR; since both the provider and its servers are based in Germany, this data never leaves the scope of the GDPR.
4Embedded YouTube videos
One project reference on this site (the forensic visualization tool) can show a TV report through an embedded YouTube video. The video is not loaded by default — only a static thumbnail is shown, and no connection to YouTube is made until you actively click "Play the report". Only that click loads an iframe from youtube-nocookie.com, at which point your IP address and other technical data are transferred to Google Ireland Limited (Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland), and YouTube may also set cookies. The legal basis is your consent given through that click (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can withdraw this consent with future effect at any time simply by reloading the page and not pressing play again. For more information, see Google's privacy policy at policies.google.com/privacy.
5Getting in touch
If you contact me by email at hello@stephanrueb.com, the data you provide (in particular your email address and anything you choose to share) is processed and stored solely to handle your enquiry. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR where the enquiry relates to entering into a contract, and Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in responding to you) otherwise. Data is deleted once it is no longer needed for that purpose and no statutory retention obligation applies. The "Book a call" button links out to the external scheduling service Cal.com (Cal.com, Inc.); the actual booking happens on their site and is governed by their own privacy policy.
6Outbound links to external platforms
This site links out to external platforms in several places, including the Fortnite island page (Epic Games), LinkedIn and X (formerly Twitter). These links open the respective platform in a new tab; no data is transmitted from this site to those platforms in the process. Once you follow such a link, only that platform's own privacy policy applies.
7Your rights
Under the GDPR, you have the right to:
- request access to the personal data I hold about you (Art. 15 GDPR)
- request rectification of inaccurate data (Art. 16 GDPR)
- request erasure of your data (Art. 17 GDPR)
- request restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR)
- receive your data in a portable format (Art. 20 GDPR)
- object to processing (Art. 21 GDPR)
- withdraw any consent you have given, with future effect (Art. 7(3) GDPR)
To exercise any of these rights, contact hello@stephanrueb.com.
8Right to lodge a complaint
You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for this location is:
Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht (BayLDA)
Promenade 27, 91522 Ansbach, Germany
www.lda.bayern.de
9Encryption
This website is served exclusively over an encrypted HTTPS (TLS) connection, indicated by the lock icon in your browser's address bar.
10Changes to this policy
This privacy policy is updated whenever the website or the applicable legal requirements change. The version shown here is always the one in effect at the time of your visit.
